For our
construction part, we had to been given a preliminary task to complete were we
had to complete a school magazine appropriate for our target audience, were we
created a front page and a contents page, which included codes and conventions.
We then had to conduct some research, where we first had to create annotated examples of existing magazines, to show our understanding of the codes and conventions for each page, front, contents, and the double page spread. After completing this, we then had to conduct some quantitative research, where we had created a survey online, which we then posted this on social media websites aimed at our target audience to complete. We did this in order to find out the needs and wants from our target audience, so we were able to base our magazine on these results.
After completing this, we had then done some qualitative research were we had created some designs for each three of our pages, were we then asked a focus group of our target audience, on which design they thought was best. We conducted this type of search so we were able to base these results on our final design for our magazine. We had then created an audience profile, were we had included many images from what we had learnt from our results of our survey, that our target audience had shown an interest too, which we included, along with statistics on other things we also found out on our survey results.
We then had to do several planning sheets where we would plan our designs for our Masthead, front page, contents, and double page spread. We then annotated these to explain we knew and understand the codes and conventions. We then had used our flat plans which were our designs that we had used for our focus groups, to get a rough idea of what our pages would individually look like. Shortly after this, we had taken photos for our magazine, and included them onto a contact sheet, where we had shown which photos we were going to use, and which ones we weren't and a brief explanation for this decision. We also had to do a pitch presentation, which is where we would present our qualitative and quantitative research results, along with our audience profile. We did this to enable us to get understand the needs and wants of our target audience. We also had to create a photo shoot document, where we would include details on where the photos shoot took place, if there were any hazards occurring during the photo shoot. This was done to ensure that the photo shoot was taken in a safe environment to take place.
After successfully completing these, we then started to complete our three pages, where we would include our own images that we had taken, including designs that meet the needs and wants of our target audience, and codes and conventions for each page on what we have learnt. Lastly we had to complete 7 essays on questions based on our magazine. We did this to show our understanding on every code and convention of magazines, including publishing the magazine, distributing the magazine, target audiences, understanding the mode of address, developments within the magazines, and much more.
